From scenic high-alpine hikes and wildflower meadows to paved bike paths with stunning reservoir views, paddleboarding on Dillon Reservoir, and more, the state offers endless ways to get outside and explore. Here are some of our favorite hikes, bike routes, and outdoor activities that showcase the best of the Rockies.
Mayflower Gulch Trail
Location: Near Copper Mountain / Frisco, CO
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance to the Cabins: ~3 miles round trip (1.5 miles one way)
Elevation Gain to the Cabins: ~900–1,000 ft
Estimated Time to the Cabins: 1.5–2.5 hours round trip
This scenic out-and-back hike winds through wildflower-filled meadows to the historic ruins of an old mining town, surrounded by towering peaks. It’s one of the most rewarding and accessible high-alpine hikes in Summit County — especially beautiful during wildflower season in mid-to-late summer. MORE




Hallelujah Loop Trail
Location: Copper Mountain, CO
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: ~2.1–2.4 miles loop
Elevation Gain: ~550–670 ft
Estimated Time: 1.5–2.5 hours
A gorgeous high-alpine loop starting from the top of the American Eagle lift. The trail features panoramic views, wildflowers, and a nice mix of forest and open terrain. It’s a favorite for hikers wanting big scenery without an all-day commitment. MORE




Summit County Rec Path – Frisco to Dillon & Swan Mountain Loop
Location: Frisco / Dillon / Breckenridge area, CO
Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult (due to length and climbs)
Distance: ~18–20 miles round trip (Frisco → Dillon Reservoir loop → Swan Mountain → back to Frisco)
Elevation Gain: ~1,100–1,500 ft
Estimated Time: 2–4 hours
This popular paved recreational path circles Dillon Reservoir with beautiful lake and mountain views. The highlight is the climb up Swan Mountain (on the east side), which offers panoramic vistas at the top. You can keep it as a Frisco–Dillon–Swan Mountain–Frisco loop, or add extra distance/mileage by riding to Breckenridge first before heading back to Frisco. MORE
